West Bay Beach pictured to the left is Roatan's most popular beach. Located on the north west shore of the island, you will have the opportunity to relax and enjoy the Caribbean turquoise waters. The Mesoamerican Barrier Reef is the second largest in the world and literally a short swim away, a diver's paradise!
You can enjoy various watersports from this location like snorkeling, kayaking, diving, glass bottom boat, parasailing, jet skiing, paddle boarding, and much more. Just inform your English speaking tour guide as to what activities you would like to include at West Bay Beach. Additional fees apply for rentals and services. Resorts and restaurants also align themselves with West Bay Beach. You can find bars, gift shops, and locals selling handmade jewelry and woodcraft all along the beach.

Experience the mangrove tunnels/canals on the east side of the island, an untouched area of Roatan. These waterways lead to lagoons and the sea with abundant wildlife. Pirates cut out these waterways centuries ago to harbor their ships and plan attacks on passerby vessels attempting to avoid bad weather. French Harbour, Jonesville, and Oakridge are a few of the beach side communties you will visit and explore.
The Garifuna People, natives originally from West Africa have kept their traditions and language. At the Garifuna Village, you will experience Garifuna People's way of life and hear their music and watch their traditional dances. Did you know? The island was formerly known as Ruatan and Rattan. It is believed the island was infested with rats when the first European settlers landed. Christopher Columbus on his fourth voyage visited the Bay Islands between the years 1502-1504.
