Frequently Asked Questions
Which port does Carnival Miracle dock at in Roatán?
Carnival Miracle calls at Isla Tropicale cruise port, in Dixon Cove, on the island’s south shore about three miles east of Coxen Hole. The ship docks alongside the pier, so you simply walk off the ship — Isla Tropicale never uses tender boats.
The Carnival Miracle receives priority docking at the Isla Tropicale Cruise Center in Dixon Cove, Honduras. The cruise ship has two terminals available for docking upon arrival.
What time does Carnival Miracle arrive in and leave Roatán?
Arrival and departure times for every scheduled Carnival Miracle call are listed in the schedule table on this page, and we update it as the cruise line publishes changes. You can also see every ship due at Isla Tropicale on the Isla Tropicale cruise ship schedule.
Plan around your all-aboard time, not the departure time — it is usually 30 to 60 minutes earlier. Every Discover Roatán tour is built backwards from that all-aboard time, with at least an hour of buffer, so you are back at the pier with margin to spare.
Will I get back to Carnival Miracle before it sails?
Yes — and we put that in writing. Our Back to Ship Guarantee means we track Carnival Miracle’s posted all-aboard time, size each tour to finish well inside it, and get you back to Isla Tropicale on time.
We are a local Roatán operator, not a reseller. Our guides are on the island watching the pier and the traffic, so if anything shifts on your port day we adjust the route rather than hope for the best.
What are the best shore excursions from Carnival Miracle in Roatán?
Guests arriving on Carnival Miracle at Isla Tropicale most often book snorkelling and reef trips, the sloth and monkey sanctuary, beach-club days, and island sightseeing — all timed to the ship’s port hours.

The tours shown on this page are the ones that fit a Carnival Miracle port day. You can browse the full range in our shore excursions catalogue, or read up on the pier itself on the Isla Tropicale port guide.
Should I book a Roatán excursion in advance or wait until Carnival Miracle docks?
Book in advance. Carnival Miracle can put thousands of guests ashore inside the same two-hour window, and on days when a second ship shares the port the best tours and the good guides are committed long before anyone walks off.
Booking ahead also means a confirmed guide holding a sign with your name at the pier exit, a set price, and no negotiating on a crowded dock with your clock already running.
How far is Isla Tropicale from Roatán’s main attractions?
Typical drive times from the Isla Tropicale pier:
- Mayan Eden Eco Park — 10–15 minutes
- Daniel Johnson’s Monkey & Sloth Hangout — about 15 minutes
- Little French Key — about 20 minutes
- AJ’s Monkeys & Sloths — about 20 minutes
- West Bay Beach — 30–35 minutes
A note worth knowing: “the sloth sanctuary” is not one place. Three of the parks above go by that name — Mayan Eden Eco Park, Daniel Johnson’s Monkey & Sloth Hangout and AJ’s Monkeys & Sloths — and as the times show, they are not interchangeable. If a tour listing just says “sloth sanctuary,” ask which one before you book.
AJ’s sits only a few minutes on from Little French Key, so those two pair neatly into a single Carnival Miracle port day — sloths and monkeys in the morning, the beach and the water park after.
Roatán is a small island, so nothing worth seeing is far from the pier — but the roads are narrow and the drive is slower than the distance suggests. These times are why a well-planned port day comfortably fits two stops, and why we build the return leg around your all-aboard time with at least an hour to spare.
Is an independent tour better than Carnival Miracle’s ship-sponsored excursion?
For most guests, yes. Cruise-line excursions are resold to you with the line’s margin on top and run in large coach-sized groups on a fixed script. We are the local operator those tours are often sourced from, so you get a smaller group, a real Roatán guide, more time at each stop, and a lower price.
The one thing cruise lines advertise that independents usually cannot match is a return guarantee — which is exactly why we publish our Back to Ship Guarantee.
