About The Roatan Dolphin Encounter
Roatan is home to the Roatan Dolphin Encounter, a sought after shore excursion island visitors have come to enjoy and talk about for years to come. Located at the Roatan Institute of Marine Sciences (RIMS) in Sandy Bay, the Roatan Dolphin Encounter is centrally located for both cruise ship passengers and resort guests. The picturesque views and clear Caribbean turquoise sea makes this experience one of a kind.
The Roatan Dolphin Encounter consists of a 30 minute session with the dolphins and trainer at waist deep water. You will have the opportunity to learn about the dolphins and interact with them. They will perform jumps, tail walks, hugs & kisses, and rub downs. Photographs will be available for purchase and you may take your own photos towards the end of your dolphin encounter.
Roatan Dolphin Swim & Snorkel
The Roatan Dolphin Swim & Snorkel consists of a 30 minute session with the dolphins and trainer at waist deep water as mentioned in the Dolphin Encounter. However, you get an additional 30 minutes to freely swim in deeper water with 18 to 20 bottlenose dolphins! This is freestyle snorkel and photography is not allowed while snorkeling with the dolphins free time. Mask, Snorkel, and fins are required. Cost is $9.00 per set, unless you have your own.
Requirements: Children 8 years of age and older.
Roatan Dolphin Action Swim
The Roatan Dolphin Action Swim consists of a full 45 minutes session with the dolphins! The first 8 minutes is an interaction session with the dolphins where you may take photos with your own camera. Thereafter, you will be in the water with the dolphins getting a foot push, handshake, kisses, dorsal fin rides, vocal practice, and other exciting dolphin behaviors. Photographs will be available for purchase from the facility at the end of your Roatan Dolphin Action Swim.
Requirements: Children 5 years of age and older.
Roatan Dolphin Dive
The Roatan Dolphin Dive is a full 45 minutes dive with the dolphins on a sandy bottom at a depth of 60 feet. After checking in with the dive shop(certification required), you will take a short boat ride to Bailey’s Key, home of the Atlantic Bottlenose Dolphins. Thereafter, you will take part in a small orientation with a Q&A session about proper diving etiquette with the dolphins.
Once completed, its a short boat ride to the second largest reef system in the world and where all the excitement begins! The boat ride ends with your descent along the beautiful reef wall where you will meet two or three of your curious dolphin friends. You may interact with the dolphins at this point in the dive; a dive guide, dolphin behaviorist, and videographer will be accompanying you.
Requirements: Children 12 years of age and older; 4 guest minimum, 10 guest maximum.
Roatan Dolphin Trainer For A Day
The Roatan Dolphin Trainer For a Day is a full day activity starting at 8:30AM and ending at 4:30PM! Welcome to the daily life of a dolphin trainer, where you will experience fish duty and in depth knowledge about dolphins and their care.
Furthermore, our dolphin education includes 3 classroom sessions and 3 sessions on the key regarding dolphin anatomy. Hand gestures, dorsal toe ride, and other dolphin behaviors are all part of the learning experience at the Roatan Institute of Marine Sciences.
Requirements: Children 12 years of age and older.
